Late C18 refacing or remodelling of earlier house. Red brick, steeply
pitched tiled roof with dormer behind parapet. 2 storeys, 4 sash windows
with nearly flush framed and louvered shutters. 2 stone steps up to 6
panelled door and fanlight in panelled reveal and elaborately carved wooden
surround of pilasters and broken pediment with modillions. Ground-floor
room has niches, original fireplace.
Plaque records residence in a house on thin site of 'George Chapman,
translator, 1559-1634'.

Nos 1 to 17 (consec). Nos 19 to 32 (consec) and Nos 35 to 40 (consec)
form a group.
