House and stable, now one house. Early C17, floor inserted and chimney
in late C17, outer walls renewed in brick when house divided in C19,
renovated in C20. Timber frame on brick sill, cased and in house largely
replaced in red brick now painted or roughcast. Steep old red tile roof,
half hipped at E. A 3-cells, internal-chimney, lobby-entry plan house
facing S with its E gable on the old building line facing the green, and
a one-bay former stable attached to its W end. Formerly single-storey
throughout, floor has been inserted with a large internal chimney to
heat the middle room and the chamber over. C19 external E gable chimney
added later. S front has 4 flush casement windows, central gabled porch,
and 4 gabled dormers at the eaves. Separate door into W end. Timber
frame of one-bay former stable complete with jowled-posts, curved braces
to cambered tie-beams, inclined straight queen-posts, and clasped-purlin
roof-structure. In house tie-beams cut for doorways, straight braces to
tie-beams, long straight wind-braces, clasped-purlin roof, and E gable
truss exposed with collar, and peg-holes for studding of lower walling
now replaced by brick. Axial beams roughly chamfered. Large open
fireplace on ground floor with lintel and narrow bricks in half-arch to
carry hearth of chamber fireplace over. Face-halved bladed scarf joint
in front wallplate.
