7/163 The Holt Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Early C18, refronted 1798 (date on front), S end part a C19
extension. Red brick with 2 parallel hipped old red tile roofs, the
inner slopes slated. A large 2-storeys, double-pile plan house facing W
at rear of a long forecourt flanked by farm buildings. Originally a
2-cells, end-chimney, central entrance and stair plan house. One cell
matching S extension at service end. W front has 4 sash windows to 1st
floor, similar to RH on ground floor and 2 canted bay windows flanking
entrance. 3 steps to 6-panel flush beaded door (top 2 glazed). Fluted
tapered Doric pilasters with section of entablature and triangular open
pediment with mutular cornice and enriched bedmould. Blank arched
tympanum over door with moulded transom. Date to RH. Interior has large
open fireplaces, chamfered axial beams without stops. Single storey
extension to N with gabled front with corbelled verge, a plank door and
sash window with 10/10 panes.
