Gates and railings on north side of Churchfields Recreation Ground

Gates and railings. Dated 1908. Metal gates and railings on chamfered concrete plinth; red brick gate-piers with ashlar cornices and capstones. Double carriage gate and flanking pedestrian double gates, the former ramped up at centre, the latter ramped down, each having: dog bars with orb finials; mid- and top-rails with linked circle motifs; circular handles; turned baluster-type bars to upper sections (some missing); moulded cornices with gadrooned urn finials (some finials broken off); and elaborate spiral-work at centre of carriage-gate. Metal plaque on one pier records, "Churchfield Pleasure Grounds. Presented by John Lyle Esq of Finnart House. 1908." From the gates, the railings run east, with a simple double-gate near east end, and turn north, with a simple pedestrian gate near north end. The railings have plain bars and standards surmounted by spiral-decorated panels.
