Milestone. Late C18. Bath stone pillar with cast iron plaque plugged on. Stone about 350 in wide and 200 mm in thick, standing about 600 mm in high, the top roughly rounded: plaque 320 mm x 260 mm high with shouldered semi- circular top of 280 mm diameters; early incised lettering reads: 'BRUTON' in curved head, "4 MILES" in plaque proper.
Well preserved examples: the Bruton Trust founded 1756, became responsible for this Bruton to Warminster road in 1793.
