Manor house. Late C16, enlarged C17, comprehensively restored c1935 by Hubert Lidbetter for Mr and Mrs Lloyd Fox.
Squared and coursed chert stone, Ham stone dressing, steeply pitched slate roofs, coped verges, stone stacks. U-plan
with very shallow projecting gable ends on east front, projecting porch abutting south range. East front, 2 storeys,
attic to south range, 1:1:2:1 bays, gabled outer bays, full height gabled porch to right of hall, 3 and 4-light
chamfered stone mullioned windows under hoodmou1ds, leaded 2-light window in porch, moulded ogee headed outer doorway,
square headed chamfered inner doorway, early door. South front: 2:1:2 bays, 2-light window in gabled centre, 5-light
window below, 3-light to right, left 3-light window end bay, moulded Tudor arch headed doorway adjoining centre bay,
small square stair light to left. Interior: upper storey not seen, plank and muntin screen to cross passage, good
moulded depressed Tudor arch head to fireplace in hall, originally with stair turret projection to right, 8-panel
steeply chamfered compartment ceiling with exposed joists, chamfered beams in other rooms but extensively renewed.
Interesting as an example of a high quality 1930s restoration of a C16 vernacular building. (Country Life, November
