GV II
Farmhouse, formerly cottages, now house. Cl6 or earlier, with C17 and late
C18 additions and alterations. Timber framed, with rendered infilling.
Late C18 right addition chequered red and grey brick. Plain tile roof.
2 storeys and attics. Ragstone plinth to timber-framed section. Facade
of timber-framed section divided by principal posts into 3 timber-framed
bays (but long right bay possibly two). Lower midrail to left end bay.
Possibly underbuilt gable end jetty to right. Broadly-spaced close-studding.
Right addition has brick plinth, higher eaves than main range, and eaves
cornice of small Ionic modillions. Steeply-pitched roof to main range,
hipped to left. Right addition has same ridge-line as main range, with roof
half-hipped to right. Large multiple red and grey brick rear stack or
stacks with corbelled tops to flues, towards centre of main range, with one
set of flues parallel to main range and another adjoining at right-angles.
Two gabled two-light dormers. Central bay has two pairs of posts rising
above eaves with lean-to roof over; one pair almost adjoining principal
posts rising from ground, the other pair set further into-the bay, rising
from the midrail. Together they probably formerly framed a deep central
window between the inner posts, with frieze windows between the inner and
outer posts. Irregular fenestration of 3 two-light casements to main range;
one towards each end and one partly filling deep central window space. One
twelve-pane sash to C18 addition. Panelled door set behind small gabled
porch to left end of right (or right-central) bay. Brick lean-to with
rendered gable, to left. Probably at least one rear wing. Interior not
inspected.
