The cross is dated 1897 and is an octagonal pillar with moulded base surmounted
by a carved panel depicting the Crucifixion capped by a cross. The cross stands
on 4 stone steps which are Mediaeval. According to a charter of Edward III the
burgesses of Folkestone met annually at the Churchyard cross on the feast of
the Nativity of Our lady (8th September) to elect the Mayor.
