11/68 The Old Rectory

House, former rectory. Built 1842 for Reverend J.C. Williams, architect Edward
Haycock of Shrewsbury. Older farmhouse origins. Coursed squared ironstone, slate
roof, brick ridge and end stack. Irregular double-depth plan. 2 storeys,
6-window range. Irregular front of 2 large and one small central gable with
pinnacle above large window lighting staircase. Porch centre right has 4-centred
arch doorway with hood mould, datestone panel above inscribed ICW 1842, and
ornamental shaped gabie. 4-pane front door. Slightly projecting wings either
side have brick stacks with rounded angles to gable ends. 2-light leaded wood
mullion and transom windows throughout with flat arch lintels. 2-storey canted
bay to right side. Interior: staircase with stick balusters and mahogony rail.
