Former barn range approximately 50 metres west of New Shipton Farmhouse
II*
Former barn range. Probably C15 with later additions and alterations. Cruck-framed with red brick and some timber framing. Plain-tile roof. Eight bays in all. Four bays to left are probably C15. Door and two-light window to far left in C19/C20 walling then double door opening, then seven panels of square framing with brick underbuilding and four-light window. Further double doorway. Later additions to right with brick walling stable doors and various windows including iron-framed windows to far right. C20 double doorway on right end. Various doorways and blocked double doorway to rear, together with fragment of timber-framing opposite the far left of front.
Interior. Left half has five pairs of full cruck blades including one on the far left end which has been cut off above the collar. The others are complete with collars and saddles and have single purlins between with most of the curved windbraces. To further right a later queen-post truss and on right end two queen-strut trusses probably of late C18. Renewed rafters and plank ridge. On the far left end is a mid C19 extension at right angles which is not of special architectural interest.
This barn with five pairs of cruck blades is a rare and important survival.
