Includes No 5 Lower Severn Street. 1901. Brick and yellow terracotta; tile roof.
In a style similar to Nos 81 to 91 (odd) John Bright Street (qv) and no doubt by
the same architect. Three storeys plus attic; 3 bays plus the former entrance bay
on the corner. Ground floor with modern shop front incorporating the entrance.
First floor with 3 round-headed windows within terracotta panels with cornices.
Second floor with 3 couplets of arched windows. In the roof 2 flat-headed dormer
windows, one of 5 lights in the rhythm 2:1:2, the other of 2 lights. The corner
with a first floor inset canted bay window that reaches into the second floor and
is then 'bridged across' the corner to terminate in a single sentry-box like window
in front of a tall gable. The return on Lower Severn Street (where there is the
entrance to No 5 Lower Severn Street) generally similar to the facade but with first
floor windows with segmental arches within their moulded frames.
