House, now museum. Probably c1700. Brick with tile roof and rendered plinth.
One storey with attic, two bays. Windows are casements with glazing bars.
On the ground floor they have segmental heads. The attic is lit by dormers.
Straight-joints suggest that the ground floor windows have been altered.
Doorway at right, with segmental head. Interior: the right hand room has
a chamfered axial beam and an inglenook with chamfered bressummer. History:
Francis Asbury (1745-1816) lived in the house during his boyhood. In 1771
he emigrated to America, travelled extensively preaching the Methodist message,
and in 1784 was made one of two superintendents, or bishops, of the Methodist
Episcopal Church of America. (VCH, p 4).
