House, early C18, probably on earlier core. Red brick, concrete pantiles,
gable parapets. 5 bays, 2 storeys and attic, additions to rear, end internal
stacks, dogstooth cornice. Ground floor with central doorway having renewed
oak door with rectangular light over and flat canopy. 4 low recessed sashes
with glazing bars to ground floor. First floor with 5 flush sashes with
glazing bars, all under cambered arches; 2 inserted roof dormers. Returns
with brick tumbling-in and eaves platband, right return with some coloured
headers and blocked opening to first floor right. C19 2-storeyed 2 bay
extension to right return, 2 sashes to ground floor, 2 sashes with glazing
bars to first floor; later 1½ storey single bay addition in gault brick with
doorway to ground floor and sash above. Rear: 2 storeyed extensions under
3 gables, gable to left in brick, gables to centre and right in carstone.
The house is on the site of a Benedictine cell of the Abbey of St. Etienne,
Caen, Normandy.
