(north side)

550-/6/10000 Statue and Tomb
6 metres north of St. James Church

II

Tomb with lead statue. 1909 by Gilbert Bayes. White marble with a
lead figure and plate. Rectangular grave tomb with square piers at
the corners and small defining walls, at the west end a tall square
pier capped with an egg and dart mould cornice, and a plaque inscribed
" THE HON. GERALD. VABERAIN WILSON THIRD SON OF FIRST BARON
NUNBURNHOLME. BORN 1886. DIED 1908. THIS MEMORIAL ERECTED BY HIS
MOTHER". Above a near life size figure of an angel, in lead, carrying
a plaque with JOHN in raised letters, signed Gilbert Bayes 1909. This
is an extremely fine example of the work of this important Romantic
Sculptor.
