II

Former farmhouse, now house. Early C18, rear wing may be older,
early C19 alterations. Painted Flemish bond brickwork to left of
front, English bond to right, stone plinth; rough wet dash render
to rear wing, tiled roofs. Seven-window front, one room deep,
rear wing at right angles offset from centre, stair turret in angle
on right, leanto behind. Two-and-a-half storeys. Front 6-panel
door in centre, bottom 2 fielded, top 4 glazed; semi-circular
fanlight with radiating bars; attached Doric column either side,
impost block and open pediment over. Brickwork changes just to
right of door. Either side 3 tall, 18-pane sash windows,
cambered, rubbed brick arches. End windows mid C20 alterations,
replacing dummy windows. Moulded brick string course to first
floor, stops short of corners. Above, in centre 24-pane sash, two
18-pane each side as ground floor: blind opening at ends. Dentil
elves. Large, square chimney on ridge right gable, smaller on
ridge one room in from left end. String course across bottom and
part way up gable on left. Interior: fielded panelled shutters
to front, ground floor. Entrance hall, 6-panel doors, fielded,
fluted surrounds with lion-head corner paterae. Eared surround to
fireplace; H hinges to fielded-panelled cupboard doors to left.
Dogleg stairs with turned balusters, moulded string and handrail.
Panelled doors to cupboards in room to right, shaped fronts to
shelves, semi-circular heads. Room at right end wide fireplace
with elliptical brick arch. House built in at least 3 stages,
last 2 possibly rebuilding earlier house. Stairs in turret later
removed.
