6/140 Croft Farmhouse

GV II

Detached farmhouse. C17 with many later additions. Random rubble
limestone; ashlar chimney stacks; stone slate roof. Original house:
2-storey with attic and central porch; 1 room additions of 2
storeys with attic added at each end; 2 back wings, both formerly
single-storey, 1 enlarged to 2-storey late C20. South front:
central gabled porch with glazed small-paned door and stone lintel;
2 windows left of porch, 1 in addition; 3-light recessed chamfered
mullioned window with hoodmould and 2-light above; windows in
addition are leaded timber casements with stone lintels; 2 windows
to right of porch, 1 in addition of coursed and squared masonry;
all leaded timber casements with stone lintels; 2 hipped roof
dormers; 3 ridge-mounted chimneys, 2 to ends of original house, 1
to east gable end, all with plain chamfered caps and skirts. West
gable end: single window fenestration with plank door; all leaded
timber casements with stone lintels; 3 rows of pigeon holes in
gable with perches. Scattered fenestration to back: metal
casements with concrete lintels to west addition; one 3-light
recessed chamfered mullioned window with hood; casement over with
timber lintel; projecting single-storey wing has gable end chimney
stack above projecting round-ended bread oven; metal casement and
plank door to west side of wing; 2-storey wing further east altered
in C20 with 3-light mullioned window in gable end and 2 metal
casements below with concrete lintels. Blank east parapet gabled
end to main range.
Interior of small back wing has intact bread oven with iron door.
2 barns, 1 to north the other to north west (q.v.).
