II
Former toll house, now house on boundary between Withington C.P.
and Colesbourne C.P. Early C19. House; random tufa limestone,
slate roof, brick chimney. Garden store; random limestone, stone
slate roof. House single unit plan, gable end towards road
canted. Store at gable end away from road. House; 2 storeys.
Pointed Gothick windows to ground floor on each face of canted
gable end. Two 2-light casements with small rectangular panes to
first floor (leaded panes missing from on one side of casement at
canted gable end). Sliding sash with horizontal glazing bars
lighting ground floor on south to right of C19 plank door within
segmental-headed surround. Built to collect tolls from users of
private road from Colesbourne to Seven Springs in Coberly C.P.
The road was principally for the private use of the Elwes family of
Colesbourne Park. (A.R.J. Jurica, Colesbourne in V.C.H. Glos.
VII, 1981, pp 183-192.)
