4/233 Hartwell Farmhouse

Large farmhouse. Date plaque centre front with inscription
"EC/Hartwell Farm/1780". Random coursed rubbLe stone with partial
roughcast front, on cemented plinth. Stone slate roof with stone
end stacks and moulded cornices renewed to riqht front end. Double
range, with lower rear range and C20 flat roofed section across
back, left hand end being cross rear range. Two storeys and attic
to front, 2 storeys to rear. Three gables, each with 2-light stone
mullion in flush stone frames with 6-pane wood casements. First
floor has 3/2/3-light similar, with plaque above centre window.
Ground floor has 3 and 2-light on left, central door, and 2 and 3-
light on right. Stone doorcase with large flush chamfered lintel
and jambs and double half-glazed doors probably of c1926 when house
considerably altered. Gabled stone porch added in front of door at
this time.
Interior has large timber bressumer fireplace at left hand end and
flat beam in this room. Small originally separate cottage to right
of main house and now adjoining of single storey and attic with
three 2-light stone mullions and door in plain stone surround
facing into house.
