3/7 College Farmhouse

Farmhouse. c.1700 or early C18. Coursed rubble, Cotswold stone roof with 3
ridge chimneys, the two left hand ones with moulded capping. Plan somewhat
irregular, basically 2 parallel ranges of unequal length with a stair turret
in angle thus formed to South. 2 storeys and attic, 2 gabled dormers. 1 (blind):
2 bays, 4-light chamfered mullion windows in rebated surrounds, to right on
ground floor a king mullion window, all windows have drips. Left hand bay slightly
angled back. 2 doorways in (restored) gable and to South. The East front is
lower, also 2½ storeys and has wooden lintels to openings; the North gable has a
3-light mullioned window on 1st floor.
Interior: dog-leg staircase with straight string, about 2 turned balusters per
tread, wide handrail with moulding returned down newel on 1st floor. Similar to
staircase at Lords of the Manor Hotel, Upper Slaughter (qv). Principal ground
floor room previously partitioned has 2 fireplaces, one beam has pyramidal stops.
This house was empty, open and delapidated at time of resurvey (1982).
