Piers, gates, railings and boundary wall. Mid C19. Cast iron and limestone.
Immediately south of south porch pair of gates with fleur-de-lys heads to rails set to
limestone piers c600 m square with heavy moulded caps, right pier partly built in to
adjacent wall, simple overthrow with lamp with acrotoria. Running as boundary to St
John's Road northwards from this point 27 panels of railing c760 mm high above dwarf
wall of varying height; each panel contains 27 slender uprights with flattened
spear termination, main posts stayed by iron supports. Dwarf wall, acting as
retaining wall for most of its length, in squared limestone rubble with weathered
sandstone capping.
The railings are for the most part in good condition at time of survey, especially
since they are unusually delicate in design.
