Description

PAINSWICK NEW STREET
SO 8609-8709 (part)
(north west side)
8/157
The Watch House
GV II
House. Early C19. Limestone ashlar, roof not visible. A narrow frontage which
projects forward from adjoining Nutgrove House (qv), thus providing a view down
New Street, and hence probably the name. Three storeys, one-windowed to front
and to short return face; plinth, all band, cyma cornice and parapet blocking.
To front a 2-light casement over 4-pane sash over a C20 casement and door;
return face has two blank window recesses over a 4-pane sash. Fenestration much
modified, but important street element, now included primarily for its group
value.
