Gatepiers. c1900. The entrance to the courtyard from Furzedown Lane, in the gap
between the early and later stable buildings, is made impressive by 2 massive
gatepiers. Large ball finials rest on bold stone cornices, with pilasters at the
corners of the square piers, and a simple base. The pilasters have moulded caps
and bases, & rusticated projections tied horizontally by recessed panels, the
infilling being yellow brickwork.
