Railway station. 1865 for Great Eastern Railway. Red brick with gault brick rusticated quoins, string and eaves courses; Station Master's house of render over brick with similar gault brick dressings; hipped slate roofs; brick ridge and end stacks with oversailing courses. H-plan with Station Master's house to left (east} of station building. Station Master's house has 2-storey, symmetrical 3-window range east elevation: central panelled door set in moulded wood architrave with semicircular arched entry to trellised porch; 4-pane sashes set in segmental-arched raised architraves; similar fenestration to one-bay side walls. Station building of one-storey, 3 window range with projecting bay to cross wing on right: recessed centre has ornate iron brackets to lean-to canopy over panelled door flanked by 4-pane sashes set in keyed segmental-arched raised architraves; panelled door to wing on right) which has similar window and architrave to front. Similar rear elevation has 3-light segmental-arched window with glazing bars to ticket office; fretted wood canopy supported on ornate Gothic-style columns with foliate capitals and brackets with foliate spandrels. Interior: panelled doors; simple classical fireplace to waiting room on right; central booking hall has panelled wood screen with pilasters to ticket office on left.
