Farmhouse, late C16 and early C17, with C19 and C20 extension. Timber-
framed, lower walls plastered, upper walls tilehung, roof tiled. The SE
crosswing remains from an earlier hall house. The NW crosswing and the
2-storey hall block built or rebuilt in the early C17, with early C17
stair tower in the S angle. (The RCHM reported that both crosswings were
jettied but no evidence of jetties visible in 1982). Original axial chimney
stack at NW end of hall block, with 4 octagonal shafts accurately restored
1981. C17 external stack at SE end. Cellar under NW crosswing. C19 and C20
rear extensions to this wing. Ground floor of SE crosswing is blind to
the front: 2 C20 casements on ground floor, 5 C20 casements on first floor,
C20 gabled porch. Plaster frieze, 1600-1620, around 1½ walls of lower SE
room, remainder reproduced 1981. Some early C17 panelling in lower middle
room, C17 stair posts, rail-and string, with C20 flat balusters.
2-movement iron crane fixed in brickwork of main hearth, pivot defective.
