House, late C16, extended in C19/20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with
machine-made clay tiles. 4 bays aligned approx. E-W with chimney stack in
second bay from W end, forming lobby-entrance and stair hall to N. Extended to E
and W in C19/20, with external chimney stack at E end. 2 storeys. 4-panel door
with upper panels glazed, in slated gabled porch. Ground floor, 3 C20 casement
windows. First floor, 2 C19 and 2 C20 casement windows. The interior has
jowled posts, curved bracing trenched inside heavy studding, face-halved and
bladed scarfs in wallplates, plain-chamfered axial beams with lamb's tongue
stops, exposed joists of horizontal section. Between the main chimney stack and
the front door there is an original newel stair rising to the attic floor.
Attic now unlit. In the upper part of the front wall there is an unglazed
window with 4 diamond mullions in situ, blocked externally. Drawings in the
possession of the owner show the roof thatched; it was tiled c.1956. RCHM 5.
