House. Late C14 with C16 and later alterations and additions. Timber framed
and plastered. Red tiled roof. 2 red brick chimney stacks probably late C15.
Half H-plan with gabled crosswings. Gablet to right. 2 storeys. 1:2:1 window
range of 3 light casements with transoms including a red tiled bay to ground
floor left. Red plain tiled trellis porch. C19 2 panel door with 4 lights.
Interior. West wing of 4 bays with jowled storey posts. Cambered tie beams. 2
free standing 4 armed crown posts support a very large collar purlin. 3
original door heads remain on ground floor, two with deep segmental heads, the
third, two centred-arch with moulded label, shafted jambs with moulded capitals
and bellbases. C16 staircase with square handrail and balusters. In the modern
lean-to rear porch is a cut down door, probably original. East wing of 3 bays,
probably jettied to front. Inserted red brick chimney stack. One crown post
survives of the original roof also the collar purlin and part of the gable
frame. Central Hall. Roof probably a C16 rebuild incorporating original sooted
timbers with splayed and bridled scarf and halved and bladed scarf. Large
inserted brick chimney. Early C16 inserted first floor ceiling. Two storey
main posts seem to be fully framed with the floor. Later internal details
include a number of C16 doors and a fine C17 cupboard. RCMH 3. Moated site.
