Complex of farm buildings grouped around farmyard. C18 and C19. Mainly timber
framed and weatherboarded, partly of red brick in English bond or uncoursed,
variously roofed with pantiles, corrugated and 'Roman' tiles of red clay.
Comprises (1) C18 barn of 5 bays aligned E-W with midstrey to N, roofed with
pantiles. Original great doors to N. Hardwood frame with primary straight
bracing on footings of red brick in English bond. Originally had arched braces
to straight tiebeams, all but one replaced by bolted knees, clasped purlin roof
of which 4 bays have been rebuilt. (2) C19/C20 shelter shed of 3 bays to W of
midstrey, built with round poles, the roof forming a catslide with the main
roof. (3) C19 wagon lodge of 4 bays to W, with bolted knees to the tiebeams,
roofed with 'Roman' tiles. (4) CL9 shelter shed of 4 bays to N of it, with
low-pitched lean-to roof of 'Roman' tiles supported on round poles, and
full-length wooden hay-rack. (5) C19 shelter shed of 5 bays to N of E end of
barn, of red brick in English bond, with low-pitched lean-to roof of corrugated
tiles. (6) to NW of it, C19 shed built to a running level, the N and E walls of
red brick, mainly uncoursed, the S and W walls timber framed and weatherboarded,
with low-pitched roof of corrugated tiles. (7) to NW of it, C19 byre of 3 bays,
roofed with corrugated tiles, hipped at E end. (8) C19 stable block of 4 to W,
roofed with corrugated tiles, with 2 halved doors with slatted vents over and
one C19 casements: (9) lean-to extension to W of it, with hipped roof of plain
tiles. All the buildings face into the, yard, enclosing it on the S, E and N
sides. Included for group value.
