House. C16, altered in C20. Timber framed, roughcast rendered, roofed with
handmade red clay tiles. 3-bay main range facing SW, c.1580, and 3-bay
crosswing at right end, c.1500, with internal stack at the junction, forming a
T-plan. C20 2-storey extension with flat roof behind main range. C20
single-storey lean-to extension at left end. C20 gabled porch at right end. 2
storeys with attics. Ground floor, 4 C20 casements, 3 more on first floor, and
one in attic gable. C20 door in gabled porch. Grouped diagonal shafts,
rebuilt. Jowled posts, heavy studding. The crosswing has an underbuilt jetty
at the front, a chamfered binding beam with step stops, plain joists of
horizontal section, and a stair in the original stair trap at the rear end, an
edge-halved and bridled scarf in the right wallplate, and mortices and shutter
grooves for unglazed windows. Original studded partition on first floor between
rear and middle bay. Cambered tiebeam, roof probably originally of crownpost
construction, altered. Inserted frieze window at front of first floor, c.1580,
with 2 blocked side windows each complete with 2 moulded mullions and 3 saddle
bars. Large wood-burning hearth, the mantel beam probably surviving from an
earlier timber framed chimney, and blocked hearth on first floor. The main
range has a chamfered binding beam with lamb's tongue stops and plain joists of
horizontal section, 3 original frieze windows, each with 2 blocked side windows
complete with 2 moulded mullions and 3 diamond saddle bars, and original clasped
purlin roof with arched wind bracing, the tiebeam chamfered with lamb's tongue
stops. Large wood-burning hearth with cranked mantel beam, and oak framed spice
cupboard at side, door missing. This house has an exceptional range of original
