P.O. stores and cottage, Originally the Mill House and Bakery, Part brick and
part timber framed and plastered, 5 single storey blocks, forming 2 squares with
central courtyards, the outer opening is to the left of the front range. Hipped
red plain tiled roof. There are 2 C18 small panel vertical sliding sash windows to
the right of a plain boarded door and a 4 light shop window to the left. Central
red brick chimney stack. There are circa 1800 vertically boarded walls in the shop
and C18 board doors with ancient ironmongery throughout. To the right is a timber
framed with vertical weatherboard out outbuilding with red single Roman tile roof,
once part of the mill complex. The rear block still retains the original bake ovens.
Very few similar single storey complexes remain in Essex. The left return elevation,
4 small panel C18 sliding sash windows retain their original shutters. A millstone
remains in front of the building.
