2/57 Retaining wall and
sluice at north western
end of the lake.


GV II

Retaining wall and sluice. C18/early C19 for the Du Cane family. Red brick
with stone coping. The wall encompasses the north western end of the lake with
the Cave/Icehouse q.v. 2/58 approx. 170 metres from north corner and the sluice
approx. 50 metres south of the cave. Lake Lodge q.v. 2/56 is south of the
sluice and access is by a later plain wooden bridge over the sluice. The sluice
walls are at least 7 metres deep with a plinth and terminate in the sluice
gate, this with upper and lower arches. Above the plinth to the north wall of
the sluice are 2 culvert arches.
