TL 51 SE ABBESS, BERNERS AND ABBESS RODING VILLAGE

House, now 2 dwellings. Late C16 or earlier, 2 storeys, timber framed and
plastered 'U' shaped house, roof clay peg tiles, hipped at front corners and
half hipped at ends of rear wings. Lean-to peg tile roofed extension infilling
on rear. E wing has single storey kitchen extension at rear. Front elevation
is of 4 bays of sash windows with glazing bars with off-centre porch with simple
hood on console brackets. E elevation has gabled peg tile roofed porch with
lattice sides and oven projection. Other windows are a mixture of old and
modern casements. 3 ridge line red brick rectangular stacks. Interior shows
halved and bridled scarf joints in top plate and reused, elaborate C17 linen-
fold panelled door. Cast-iron yard pump at rear and C18 red brick garden wall
enclosing S and E sides of front garden.
