Orphanage, now community centre. c1894, probably by Brewill & Baily. Red brick,
partly pebble dashed, with ashlar dressings. Plain tile roofs with lateral brick
stacks. One and two storeys. West elevation of 3-3-3 bays, the outer wings single
storeyed. Broad central round-arched entrance to a recessed porch. Moulded arch
with intermittent keyblocks. Matching door and timber partition within, with small
pane glazing. Three light casement above. Flanked by slightly projecting gabled
bays with two storey canted bays of 1-2-1 lights. Lower flanking wings. That on
the right has three 2-light casement windows. That on the left has two similar
windows either side of a taller cross window, rising into a dormer with round-
arched gable. The orphanage was built by the Bolsover Colliery Company.
