Village Cross to the north-
25-9-51 east of the Jovial Dutchman

II
Village Cross. Dated 1871 but apparently the site of the earlier market cross,
the steps for which survive. Tapering stone shaft set on massive square base
itself placed upon a plinth of three earlier steps set in sloping ground. Wheel
cross head with foliage decoration to west face, and carved figure to east
face. The carving is thought to show Pre Raphaelite influence.
