1517/14/10004 Nos. 25-35
II
Three pairs of semi-detached houses. 1924, by Petter and Warren, for Bampton Urban District Council. Roughcast brick cavity walls. Steel roof construction of segmental-section, clad in curved corrugated iron sheets, with coped segmental gable ends, the centre pair [Nos.29 and 31] with angular profile coped ends. Red brick axial stacks.
PLAN: Three pairs of semidetached houses.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 2-window NE fronts in wide segmental gable-ends. Later C20 3-light casements and glazed doors to left and right. Similar rear elevations.
INTERIORS not inspected.
NOTE: These houses were built for the local council as low-cost housing and their design was based on the principles that Lt Colonel Nissen, of the Royal Engineers, used in the construction of the First World War Nissen huts. There are similar concrete council houses in Yeovil, West Camel and Barwick in South Somerset District.
