Church of St John the Evangelist

(Formerly listed as St John the Baptist's Church)

GV II

Church. 1848-9 by Joseph Mitchell. Coursed squared gritstone with gritstone
dressings. Slate roofs with stone coped gables. Cruciform. Nave and lower
apsed chancel, south transept and north tower. North porch and vestry
on the south side of the Chancel, Still in the pre-archaeological lancet
style rather than Early English. Pairs of lancets and stepped triplets.
Buttresses with two set-offs, between each pair of windows. The tower has
angle buttresses and a north east polygonal stair turret. No battlements.
Stained glass in the tripartite west window.
