House. Early C19. Granite and slatestone rubble with granite ashlar quoins at
right-hand end; rear wing has door and window arches of red brick. Slated roof
with bracketed wood eaves-cornice at the front. Red-brick chimneystack in each
gable. Double-depth plan with wing at rear right-hand side. Main range is 2 rooms
wide with centre through-passage and stair compartment; kitchen in right-hand rear
room. 2 storeys and garret in front range, 2 lower storeys in rear wing.
Symmetrical 3-window front. Centre doorway with cement surround; panelled
pilasters at either side, cornice on consoles above. 4-panelled door with urn-
shaped brass knocker; narrow 3-pane fanlight on top. Windows all have moulded
stucco architraves and 8-pane sashes, some containing old glass. Right-hand gable-
wall to Trough Lane has 2 garret windows with 6-paned wood casements. Side-wall of
rear wing is 2 windows wide. To left of ground storey is a segmental-headed coach
entrance with double plank gates. Second-storey windows have flat heads and 2-light
wood casements, each casement with 8 panes.
Interior: has wood staircase with thin square balusters and column-newels, the
latter with tall square-section heads having rounded tops. Rooms in ground storey
have simple moulded plaster cornices. Left-hand rear room has original wood
fireplace-surround with beaded edges and plain shelf; round-headed cast-iron hob
grate. Right-hand front room has late C19 polished black slate chimneypiece brought
from elsewhere in the town. Upper storey and rear wing not inspected.
