House, C16 or earlier and early C17. Timber framed and plastered with gabled
peg tile roofs. Of complex plan form with 2 storey and attics main block with 3
display gables on E front. To the rear of the N end is a 2 storey crosswing-
like block of earlier framing with gabled peg tile roof. Above this a lop-
sided 3rd storey, part over main range roof. Wrapping around and projecting
W from crosswing is a C17 staircase tower and extension. In the centre of the W
side, a large C20 single storey gabled peg tile roofed extension arid a lean-to
at the southern end of main block. Large off-centre C17 concertina plan stack
of joined shafts. The main E front, has short parapets linking the 3 gables,
each of which have 3 light C20 casements. N and S gables have beneath them, 2
storey projecting window bays with casements and lean-to peg tile roofs. The
first floor centre, has a single double hung sash window. Beneath this an early
C19 doorcase with Doric half columns, flat hood and frieze with diamond and
lions' head decoration with double hung sash windows either side. C17 stack
against flank of early crosswing. Interior shows 2 storey timber framed house of
3 bays and stack bay with plaster faced 4 centre headed and stop chamfered
fireplace. One storey post has grotesque male head as jowl. Some rooms have
early C19 panelling. (RCHM 29).
