- II
Farmbuildings ranged around courtyard. Mid C19. Coursed volcanic trap rubble with
brick dressings to openings and quoins roadside front; brick behind. All under dry
slate gabled-end roofs. The arrangement survives almost intact, although some of the
interiors have been re-ordered. The roadside front is of 3 main elements : central
entrance arch under end-gabled roof with overhanging eaves on moulded purlins, the
whole with higher roof ridge projecting forward from the plane of the side ranges;
large round-headed wagon archway, with keystone, and keyed occulus above. 5 upper-
floor openings to left of varying sizes, with 5 small openings below, one blocked; 3
openings above and 3 below to right, with a lower eaves line. All openings with
projecting brick sills. Roofs of all buildings around courtyard with tie beams and
collars, side-pegged and morticed. This building is listed primarily for its bold
roadside elevation unadorned but for a tall iron weathervane.
