Farmhouse. Late Cl5/early C16; stack and floor in hall inserted
in C17; refronted and extended to rear in late Cl9. Colourwashed
render over slatestone rubble; late Cl9 slate roof, gabled to
right and hipped to left; late C19 brick left end stack; rendered
C19 brick right end stack; C17 external lateral stack of rendered
stone to rear. 3-unit plan had central hall, with through passage
and cross wing to left, extended to L-plan with rear left wing in
late C19. One storey and attic; 4-window range. Late C19 gabled
porch to right of centre with bargeboards has half-glazed door
set in round-arched doorway. One-light casement set in blocked
through-passage doorway to left of centre. Late C19 two-light
casements with glazing bars. C20 outshut to left; late C19
two-light casements with glazing bars set in gabled half dormers
with barge boards. C19 outshut to rear adjoins cross wing which
has C19 bay projecting to rear left. Interior: two late
Cl5/early C16 chamfered round-arched service doorways to left of
blocked through-passage door; one door is partly blocked by C17
winder stairs. Room to centre has C17 open fireplace with flat
stone arch and late C12 capital with acanthus-leaf carving
supporting end of ceiling beam to one side. Late Cl5/early C16
roof over hall has 3 A-frame trusses each of heavy scantling with
butt purlins and ridge purlin set in notched and lapped apex; two
trusses to high end (to right) are smoke-blackened; casing at
first floor level (against rear wall) indicates that the feet of
the principal rafters are curved.
