House. C15 altered and extended early C17. with later work. Timber
framed with colourwashed brick infill. Old tiled roof, brick chimney to
centre of N. range and on W. roofslope of E. wing. 2-storeys. L-plan$
the E. wing a C15 hall, N. range added C17, with C18 W. bay.N.
elevation has gable of C15 wing to LH, with C20 projecting chimney,
3-light upper casement, 1-storey gabled extension, 3 bays of C17 range to
RH with 2 large gabled dormers with 3-light casements, 3 small C20
ground floor casements. Slated lean-to addition to W. gable. S. elevation
has C20 casements; W. return of E. wing has one gabled dormer with
3-light casement, slated lean-to addition on S. gable. E. elevation has
2 bays of C20 casements and 1-storey former stable range attached on LH side.
Interior E. wing has C15 timber framing of former open hall in the 2 southern
bays, including the central truss with hollow chamfered posts, tiebeam and
arch braces. Curved wall braces and long curved windbraces to roof. N. bay
has original floor with heavy close set joists. Southern bays have
chimney stack and floor, probably c.1600, with deeply chamfered cross
beams and joists with moulded chamfer stops. N. wall completely panelled with
grooved run-through panelling and BRED OF LYE inscribed over door to
original parlour. C17 N range has exposed timbers and inglenook fireplace.
