SU 9490 SW BEACONSFIELD GROVE ROAD
12/200 No 1 (Top Meadow)
-
- II
1912 by W F C Holden, added to on the left in 1922 and at the rear (the library)
in 1935. The home of G K Chesterton, 1922-36. Red brick; machine tile roof.
One storey plus attic. Two chimneys with paired stacks placed diagonally on
square bases. The stack facing the road stands above and behind a gabled bay
with flanking hipped roofs that, inside, are seen to provide a fireplace.
Curved dormer windows with leaded lights either side of the chimney make of
the stack an asymmetrical feature. To the right, the door and a dormer window
with hipped roof. The gabled addition of 1922 is of decidedly less architec-
tural interest: brick in its ground floor, imitation timber framing in its first_-
floor and attic. The library is likewise of less architectural interest.
