House. Said to incorporate parts of late C15 - early C16 timber
framed hall house. About 1580 was re-constructed by Valentine Piggot
and his wife Anne, whose initials are on the porch. Rear wing dated
1615. Altered C18, C19 and 1912. Limestone rubble with ashlar
dressings. Old tile roof with bands. Central and flanking chimneys
the latter with diagonal shafts; 2-storeys. S. front has 5 bays of
3 light windows, altered C19 but one RH on ground floor retaining its
stone frame and hoodmould. 2 storey gabled porch in 2nd bay from
left with 3-light stone mullioned window above 4-centred arched stone
doorway, moulded and chamfered with carved spandrels. Stone coped gable.
W. gable wall has 2 blocked stone mullioned windows. Interior,
Hall has moulded beams, fireplace with wide stone Tudor arch, cut
spandrels and moulded edge, and to right of fireplace an early C18
corner cupboard, a niche with arched head and glazed doors. On first floor
a smaller C16 stone fireplace, original oak ledged door in moulded and
chamfered frame to rooms over porch, other old door frames some moulded
some chamfered and a series of well preserved C16 wall paintings.
