House, including former barn. Part dated ITE 1761 on rainwater heads
to rear; front possibly earlier C18; altered and extended later C18
and C19. For Townsend family. Red brick front with off-set brick
plinth and balustraded parapet of stone and render; rear mostly brick
with some flint; plain tile roofs; brick chimneys. 2 storeys, 8 bays,
the left bay an addition. Off-centre pediment over bays 3, 4 and 5,
with blind roundels. 3-pane sashes with gauged heads. Half-glazed
door in bay 4 has semi-circular fanlight, gauged brick arch with
painted stone imposts and keyblock, and wooden porch with Doric
columns and entablature. Bay 7 has similar arch over former doorway,
now with window. Left gable has pedimented parapet with blind
roundel, arched sash to first floor, and C19-C20 canted bay window
below. Barn attached to rear by C20 link wing, is probably C18, part
altered and converted to residential use late 1970s. Timber frame
and weatherboard with flint and chalk plinth, plain tile roof and
C20 wooden casements. Interior of house has early-mid C18 staircase
with turned balusters, pulvinated string and moulded handrail.
