Priory House
II
House, formerly the rectory, built in the late C18 on the Sea or Roman Bank and near
the site of the mediaeval Chapel of St Mary at the Sea. Local brick with paler bricks
to front wall and red bricks to side and rear walls. Parapetted, steeply pitched roof
with C19 slates. Tumbled gable ends and end stacks. L-plan. Two storeys and
attics. Rubbed red brick arches and stone sills to range of five flush frame hung
sashes each of twelve panes, in open boxing. Central doorway with C20 brick porch.
Half-glazed double doors. Early C19 addition in angle. Brick with shallow pitch,
hipped slate roof. Early C19 pedimented doorcase with fluted pilasters and frieze.
Interior. Plan of two rooms flanking narrower stair and hall bay. Some original
doors with raised and fielded panels and two round-headed alcoves flanking hearth.
