Railway goods shed. 1848 for the Great Eastern and Midland
Railway Companies. Stock brick. Corrugated asbestos sheet roof
with coped gable ends with corbelled brick kneelers. Plan: 2
parallel integral ranges in rectangular plan with openings in
north and south ends and east side. Exterior: 1 storey.
Symmetrical 5-bay east front with 3 large double recessed
segmentally arched entrances and 2 narrower round arch blind bays
break forward to left and right of centre; broad brick pilaster
on right. At south end 2 double recessed round arch windows with
cast iron frame at centre and large segmental arch entrance to
right; on left the lean-to of the later C19 west range obscures
the front. Interior: not inspected.
Note: The shed was used jointly by the Great Eastern and Midland
Railway Companies, until 1872 when the Great Eastern took over.
Remained in railway use until the 1950s.
