C17 house with a medieval wing possibly a chapel. The C17 part has datestone
1657, coursed stone with steeply pitched Collyweston stone roof with coped
gable ends, 2 storey, 4 window range. First floor modern casements, ground
floor 3 and 4-light ovolo moulded stone mullion casements with cornices, and
doorway with simple moulded architrave. To right a 2 storeyed gabled staircase
wing. Ashlar end and ridge stacks.
At north end a C13 stone wing with hipped roof, and with buttresses on north
side, and cusped 2-light blocked window in west gable end. Inside there is
a 2 by 2 bay vaulted undercroft with round chamfered arches and with corbelled
stone fireplace in side wall.
Interior of C17 part has cambered and moulded fireplace bressumer and ovolo
moulded chamfer to ceiling beam.
Bridges History of Northants (1791) Vol II page 599 states: "It is said traditionally
that there was a chapel here, but no proof of it is found in any ancient writings".
