Stable courtyard: c1875 by John Douglas for Thornycroft Vernon.
English garden wall bond orange and yellow brick, red tile roof.
Arranged around 3 sides of a purple-brick courtyard. Entry from east
through stone piers flanked by machicolated walls. South range has
square clock tower with angle buttresses and steep, pyramidal lead
finialled roof. Remainder has stone mullioned windows and strip
pilasters, raised diapering and cogged bands in brickwork. West range
has line of 3 coach houses divided by iron columns, facing the
courtyard. These have panelled doors with glazed upper lights. North
range is stables with 2-storey, triple gabled south front. Central
basket-arched entrance. Stone mullioned and mullioned and transomed
windows below, pitch holes and ventilation patterns above, diapering
in gables.
