6/77 The Church of St Luke
II
Formerly village school, with attached teacher's house, now parish church. Early
C19, red brick with blue tiled roof. 2-bay nave with lower, narrower, chancel. Blue
brick weathered course to plinth. Gothic opening in east side of nave with framed,
ledged and battened door with false strap hinges. This is in a gabled porch with
barge boards and small lattice lancet in the south flanking wall. Interlaced tracery,
gothic headed, timber windows to chancel and nave, with stained glass to chancel south
and nave north-east windows. All with stone sills and chamfered brick arches.
Crested tile ridge and small metal scroll finials to porch and chancel gables. Small
bellcote, set diagonally to ridge, south end of nave.
Interior: Brick gothic chancel arch. Oak pulpit. Braced collar trusses supported
by stone consoles.
House north of church (former teacher's house) not included in this item.
