Almshouses and garden wall. Late C17. Red Flemish bond brick with
red sandstone ashlar dressings and red sandstone ashlar with plain
tile roof. Two storeys. Entrance front: Five bays (Symmetrically
disposed. Central three bays projecting with ashlar quoins
alternately flush with brickwork and slightly projecting with
chamfered rustification. Central doorway with round arch and quoins
and voussoirs of similar flush and projecting format.C20 double door
with fanlight over (now painted over). Plain stone tablet above this
with arched top and moulded edge. To either side at ground and first
floor levels are two-light mullioned windows with chamfered surrounds.
Similar arrangement in lateral recessed bays. Right hand return:
Ashlar walling. Building of two phases, a later wing having been
added at right. Single light ground and first floor windows at left
with door to right of centre and 2-light ground and first floor
windows at right. Rear: Central projecting 2 bays with door at left
and 2-light widow at right with 2 C20 windows above. Two single-light
windows to right of this and C19 wing at left with 2 single light
windows. Adjoining the later wing and forming a rectangular garden
enclosure is a wall of coursed ashlar c 3' in height with a chamfered
coping.
Interior: Passage hallway with staircase to centre having ashlar
treads and wooden balustrade with square newels and column balusters
of 3-sided open-well format. Plank doors to ground and first floor
rooms.
