Built between 1823-26, the boundary wall survives in part, the central north
gatehouse having been rebuilt. The north-west facing wall has 7 stone buttresses
with hollow chamfers each side of the entrance. Stone corbel table top course.
The north-east and north-west returns having bastions. All the wall is stone
faced with rustications and blind, round headed niches in each face, head voussoired.
Pilasters on each return with 'arrow-slits', capped with stone string and parapet.
North-east facing wall of red brick in Flemish garden wall bond with 18 semi-circular
buttresses each with conical top. Conical section to brick coping. Designed
by Thomas Hopper.
